Kathmandu, March 20: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the territorial disputes with India including Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani will be resolved through diplomatic channels.
Speaking at a question-answer session with lawmakers at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, he said the problems could not be resolved as India did not agree to receive the report of the Eminent Persons’ Group (EPG) formed jointly by Nepal and India. How the Nepali territories which were in the Nepal’s map earlier to the 1962, were removed, he put forward counter question.
PM Oli opined that the border dispute with India should be resolved through diplomatic efforts.
The EPG was formed with the consent of the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to further strengthen bilateral relations and make recommendations on matters including treaties and agreements. The EPGs from both sides prepared a joint report after holding nine meetings and reaching a consensus on important points, including the amendment of the 1950 Nepal-India Treaty. But even after six years, the Indian side has been reluctant to receive the joint report prepared by the EPGs from both countries.
When the Indian side one-sidedly published a political map incorporating the Nepali territories, Nepal also published a new political and administrative map of Nepal covering areas including Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani. India, which has incorporated Nepali territories forcefully, denied recognizing the map of Nepal.
