Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has been in India for 11 days.
On the ninth day of her India visit, Foreign Minister Rana addressed a session on climate change at the Raisina Dialogue 2025 in New Delhi, India, on Tuesday.
In the dialogue organised by the Ministry of External Affairs of India, she highlighted the current situation of climate change and its impact on Nepal, stating that the country is currently at the forefront of its consequences.
Earlier on Tuesday, she also FM Dr. Rana also met her Indian Counterpart Dr. S. Jaishankar at the sidelines of the conference. This was probably the first meeting between the two during her nine-day visit to India.
The Foreign Ministry in a statement said that during the meeting, the two discussed Nepal-India bilateral relations, mutual interests, trade, transit, and hydropower development.
Likewise, FM Rana, also met Ricky Gill, National Security Assistant to President Donald Trump of the USA and Senior Director for South and Central Asian Affairs at the National Security Council also at the sidelines.
During the meeting, Gill reaffirmed the US government’s commitment to continuing economic assistance to Nepal. He assured the continued economic support to Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) informed in a statement.
During the meeting, various aspects of Nepal-US relations were discussed.
FM Dr. Rana has urged the US government to take necessary steps for the release of Nepali student Bipin, who is under the control of Hamas. She recalled that she had previously requested US intervention in the matter and reiterated Nepal’s expectation of US assistance for Bipin’s safe release.
Likewise, FM Rana held separate bilateral meetings with her Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha, and Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mihai Popsoi.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the meetings took place on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue.
Dr. Rana who reached New Delhi after offering worship at Baba Dham in Jharkhand appeared in the formal progaram only on Tuesday. It is not known what she did for about a week in New Delhi. It is rumoured that she tried to meet Indian leaders but in vain. Earlier, his husband Sher Bahadur Deuba postponed his visit to India after no Indian leader was ready to meet him.
Even after attending the Raisina Dailogue on Tuesday, she will stay in New Delhi for three days more, probably in a bid to meet the Indian leaders. She is returning to Kathmandu on Friday.
