The year-on-year (y-o-y) consumer price inflation stood at 4.16 per cent in mid-February 2025 compared to 5.01 per cent a year ago.

According to the report, food and beverage inflation stood at 4.95 per cent whereas non-food and service inflation stood at 3.74 per cent in the review month.

During the same period in the previous year, the price indices of these groups had increased by 6.59 per cent and 3.98 per cent respectively.

Under the food and beverage category, y-o-y price index of ghee and oil sub-category increased by 12.80 per cent, pulses and legumes by 9.06 per cent, vegetable by 7.56 per cent and cereal grains and their products by 6.36 per cent.

However, y-o-y price index of spices sub-category decreased by 2.98 per cent during the review period.

Under the non-food and services category, y-o-y price index of miscellaneous goods and services sub-category increased by 10.91 per cent, clothes and footwear by 5.36 per cent, alcoholic drinks by 5.08 per cent, transportation by 5.01 per cent, tobacco products by 4.10 per cent and furnishing and household equipment by 4.07 per cent.

During the review month, y-o-y price index in rural areas increased by 4.73 per cent, while in urban areas, it rose by 3.96 per cent.
