Political and foreign relations experts believe that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s official visit to India has been totally unsuccessful.
A foreign affairs expert and former journalist, on condition of anonymity, told this reporter that Nepal was unsuccessful in clearly putting across its rightful case to India. He said that such was due largely because of a lack of adequate homework. Consequently, he could not convince his Indian counterpart. Hence the achievement has been “zero“, he bluntly said.
Quoting Indian Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao’s statement, “The 1950’s treaty is not the result of our relationship. It is the basis of that relationship”- he argued that India’s attitude towards Nepal is still not positive.
