Kathmandu, March 11: The US has one-sidedly imposed tariffs of 20% on imports from China. Earlier, the US had imposed 10% and now, it has added 10% making it a total of 20%. After US President Donald Trump assumed office, he decided to raise tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, China and the European Union from 10 to 25%.
The US economy is facing a trade loss and the Trump Administration is increasing tariffs on imports from different countries making different false allegations.
The Chinese economy is booming and it has become the second-largest economy. China is heading towards becoming the largest economy soon. Therefore, America has attempted to contain China.
While increasing tariffs, the Trump administration has alleged China for supplying the highly potent painkiller, Fentanyl, to the United States, which sounds very odd.
However, China has clarified that it is monitoring the use of Fentanyl and export of such drugs from China is impossible as strong action is taken on transporting and misuse of such drugs.
China's State Council Information Office recently released a white paper clarifying that this drug belongs to the highly potent synthetic. It is mainly used to reduce pain. According to various studies, it is 30 to 50 times more powerful than heroin and 50 to 100 times more powerful than morphine in pain relief. Its primary clinical use is for pain management in the treatment of cancer patients and other painful surgeries.
Therefore, the Chinese government has maintained high alert on the misuse of Fentanyl in the domestic market as well as transporting it abroad.
The American allegation is thus false, Chinese officials say.
The officials have clarified that it is monitoring the use of the drugs, and taking strict measures against crimes related to its transportation and use. Similarly, it is informed that more research is being done on techniques related to strict control of such drugs.
When President Trump didn’t get any reason to increase tariffs on Chinese goods, he made a false allegation on China, said the Chinese officials.
"With the vision of building a common future for mankind, China has always sincerely fulfilled its international obligations and role in drug control. China is committed to advancing global management of the issue while actively participating in international drug control matters," Chinese officials have clarified.
The white paper also clarifies that the rumors spread in the name of Fentanyl are motivated by the purpose of defaming China, saying, "Our position is clear that such unjustified actions and provocations will not benefit anyone."
According to the White Paper, China is ready to conduct practical and business cooperation based on equality and mutual respect. "We strongly protest the use of coercion, intimidation, and false prosecution of Fentanyl under various pretexts, and urge the United States to respect the facts, to consider its own interests, and to make the right decision."
Chinese officials have also made clear that if the US does not revise its new tariffs, China is ready for any type of war, whether it is a trade war or else.
Along with the rise in the US tariffs on Chinese goods, China has decided to reciprocate accordingly on imports of American goods.
