
Kathmandu, March 7: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said that there will be no restrictions on press freedom. Addressing a program organized in Kathmandu on Friday to mark the second anniversary of the Economic Media Association Nepal (EMAN), Speaker Ghimire said that he is aware of the concerns of media personnel regarding the bill under consideration in Parliament and that there will be no restrictions on press freedom.
He said that press freedom is the base of the country's economic prosperity and political stability. Speaker Ghimire expressed the view that the basic principles of democracy are a strong, transparency, and an accountable press and governance system.
He stressed the need for coordination stakeholders to revise past economic policies and find new opportunities. Similarly, Chandra Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), said that the work of creating jobs in Nepal and building infrastructure to pay taxes to the government seemed like a curse.
