Nepal has been enlisted in the grey list and, if not corrected, the next possible scenario is being blacklisted on the issues of money laundering and funding for terrorism.
Soon, Nepal is being graduated to the status of a developing country from a less-developed one. To enjoy the new status, Nepal needs to increase the capital expenditure for infrastructural development but it has continuously failed in achieving the infrastructural development goals. Every month the government is raising two billion rupees as debts to meet the general sector expenditure. The country’s economy is facing a rare type of crisis.
We have been continuously warning the government since 1990 about the present economic scenario, unfortunately, instead of timely correction of the errors, the political parties introduced rampant corruption practices. Even after foreign agencies’ warnings, the political parties in the government are seen as reluctant to correct errors.
The very leaders are expressing worry on the migration of youths and students abroad but no action has been taken to keep them within the country.
There are many challenges to overcome; many things have to be done to strengthen the nation and many laws have to be introduced to end corruption practices and bad governance. Contradictly, the government is trying to introduce weak laws so that the political leaders become safe even after being involved in corruption and other crimes. The political leaders are brokering for the vested interests of those brokers and middlemen instead of improving the general public’s livelihood.
At a time when the global security order is in a very crucial position, our political parties are concentrated towards capturing power. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli is trying to rule the country through ordinances; Sher Bahadur Deuba is waiting to become the prime minister for the fifth time; Pushpakamal Dahal, who was ousted from the PM’s post, has launched an awareness campaign to fail the present coalition government and become the PM once again. Moreover, the three leaders are becoming the PM turn by turn but they have failed to do any exemplary work after they became the PM. Of course, they have been able to fool the voters every time. Now, they have focused on the general elections in 2027.
There is a hopeless scenario in the country, and, the general public is helpless. Little hope we see is the collapse of the present system and restoration of the 1990 constitution along with the introduction of a powerful corruption-curbing agency and independent judiciary.
