Kathmandu, February 28: An earthquake estimated to have a 6.1 magnitude jolted Kathmandu and nearby districts at 2.51 am on Friday.

The epicentre of the earthquake was in the Sindhupalchowk district, close to the Nepal-China border and tremor was experienced in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, according to the National Seismological Center.

The damage caused by the earthquake is yet to be received.
