The government has finally tabled three important bills in the House of Representatives for consideration and discussion.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, presented a motion to consider the ‘Mass Media Council Bill, 2024’ in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
The bill, which originated in the National Assembly, aims to establish an independent body to regulate and promote responsible journalism. Tabling the bill, Minister Gurung stressed that the proposed council would strengthen the existing Press Council by improving the effectiveness of its work.
Likewise, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, presented the ‘Nepal Air Services Authority Bill, 2024’ and the ‘Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Bill, 2024’. These bills aim to disintegrate the Civil Aviation Authority.
The bills aim to restructure Nepal's aviation sector, addressing long-standing issues and enhancing international credibility.
The two bills are an attempt to lift the ban imposed by the EU countries on Nepal's airlines.
The EU has kept the Nepali aviation sector on the blacklist since 2013. As a result, no Nepali aircraft is allowed to fly in the EU sky.
Likewise, the Mass Media Council Bill is the most debated in Nepal.
