Former King Gyanendra’s message on the occasion of the 75th National Democracy Day

Former King Gyanendra Shah has expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the current situation in the country. He has appealed to all the countrymen to join hands to protect the nation and national unity.
Former King Gyanendra urged all the Nepalis while releasing a video message on the eve of the 75th Democracy Day on Tuesday, February 19.
He said that he sacrificed his position wishing for the benefit of the nation and prosperity of the people, but this sacrifice should not be taken lightly.
“We have been generous in the interest of the nation. We have given up our positions and privileges wishing for the good of the people. Sacrifice will never be small,” the King has remarked.
"Such a feeling should not be considered a weakness by anyone," the former king said."

History is a testament to the fact that the kings of the people worked together to bring democracy. That is why we have the highest regard for the known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives for democracy and all those involved in the movement for democracy.
Democracy is the best form of government in the modern era. There should also have been a universally accepted ideal of running the state according to the methods, arrangements and beliefs of the mandate based on the minds, minds and opinions of the people.
Democracy should have been the cherished system of advancing dignity and progress while protecting the rights and entitlements of every class, group or individual within the nation.
When we talk about democracy, we should not understand it only in the sense of debate, conflict, idolatry, opposition, resistance. The system should be seen as pro-social and pro-people. Beautiful words, attractive ideals alone will not make a democracy worthwhile. There should be proper democratic conduct to bring democracy in action and practice. Everyone's identity must be protected. The politics of prohibition does not strengthen democracy. The arrogance of the opposition and self-interest cannot make democracy dynamic.
Today the history of the country is being erased. The existence of Nepal is disappearing. Nepal's youths are leaving the country every day. The sweat of the Nepali youths is not for their soil but for elsewhere. There is a burden of not a thousand but millions of debt on the child's head. Businesses and industries are collapsing. The teachers and students in our schools are shying away. "Nepal's practices, policies and activities are not good, nothing is going to happen by staying here” Such type of narratives exist among the citizens. It does not make democracy fair.
Democracy should be a system of hope. There should be a system of trusting the people, but this has not been the case for three decades. This is the democratic system that we have chosen to bring happiness to the people, to make the people happy and happy. It is a pity that the situation has not changed.
We have been generous to the nation. We have given up our positions and privileges for the good of the people. Sacrifice will never be small. Such feelings should not be considered a weakness by anyone. We desire to unite all the parties and all the people. The meaning and purpose of our sacrifice are the same. Let's move forward with the assurance that we will not emerge from the destruction of our history and the denigration of identity.
Let us move forward by correcting the shortcomings of the past and the mistakes against our nature and culture. We will always remain dedicated and loyal to the country. Discipline and honest efforts should be made by all for the protection of the nation. We have decided to solve the national problem. Now we are ready to sacrifice anything for the development of Nepal. Now is the time. We call upon all the countrymen to join hands with us for the prosperity and progress of the country if we want to preserve the nation and maintain national unity.
