Different reactions have started to come in after the strong man of the party Girija Prasad Koirala announced at a press conference Tuesday, his decision to contest for the Nepali Congress party President in the forthcoming National convention of the party which is going to be held in Nepalgunj on March 31.

Most leaders within the Nepali Congress have supported Koirala’s decision; however, many have expressed the opinion that he should be elected unopposed to the party’s highest post. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has not made any comments on who he will support for being the party president.

On the other side, at a meeting organised by some members of the second generation of leaders of NC, it was decided that they would put up Minister for Information and Communication Chirinjibi Wagle to contest with Koirala for the party president’s seat. This is taken as a ploy to gain concessions through bargaining.
