Kathmandu, February 16: The meeting of the political parties that share power has decided to approve the ordinance on the basis of consensus. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Saturday.
After the meeting, Nepali Congress leader and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak said that they would also talk to other political parties when the ordinances replacement bill is brought in the House. He said the government would go ahead to endorse the ordinances from both houses.
He said, “The government holds the necessary number to approve the ordinances”.
The coalition government bags a comfortable majority in the House of Representatives. However, it doesn’t hold a majority in the National Assembly. It needs to take support from other small parties to secure a majority.
He said, “Discussion of the ruling party is positive. We have reached a conclusion. The process of passing orders is in progress. All political parties have agreed to move forward together. “
In the National Assembly, the Maoist Centre has 17 seats. The Nepali Congress has 16 seats, UML 10, Unified Socialist eight, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal three, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha one each. Three members are nominated. The ruling party has also initiated a dialogue with the opposition after the Congress, UML, LSP Nepal and the nominated member did not get a majority. According to the Home Minister, talks have been held with JSP Nepal, which has three seats in the National Assembly. He said, “A majority is reached in the National Assembly. JSP-Nepal president Upendra Yadav and party leader Rajkishore Yadav were out of the Valley, however, they were reached out through telephone. After further discussion with them, we decided to table the ordinances.”
According to him, the government is preparing to table the ordinances on the same day as the meeting of the National Assembly will be held on Tuesday, February 18.
