
Kathmandu, February 14: Minister for Drinking Water Pradeep Yadav has said that necessary initiatives are being taken to supply water from Melamchi to Kathmandu for twelve months. Addressing the 17th anniversary program of Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Limited, Minister Yadav said that although the water of Melamchi is being stopped during the rainy season, work is being done to provide pure water to the citizens of Kathmandu Valley for twelve months without stopping from next year. He said that the construction of Melamchi's water distribution has reached the final stage and supply will not be disrupted during the rainy season.
Similarly, Minister Yadav also informed that necessary initiatives are being taken to increase inter-ministerial coordination and supply of rainwater from the Bagmati River to Sundarijal Water Treatment Plant at the time of stopping the diversion of Melamchi water. Minister Yadav said that in order to prepare the infrastructure before the diversion of Yangri and Larke water, tenders have been called for the construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 25 million litres.
He said that works are on to increase the capacity of the water treatment plant, which currently has a capacity of 17 million liters, to 25 million liters. A loan agreement has been signed with the Asian Development Bank. Minister Yadav also informed that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the water-based drinking water project in Mahadev Khola of Bhaktapur has been taken forward. Addressing the same program, Minister Yadav said that Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Limited (KUKIL) should fully dedicate itself to the service of the people.
Secretary of the Ministry, Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya, Chief Executive Director of Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Limited Ashok Kumar Poudel, Chief of Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee Ratna Prasad Lamichhane, Chief of Planning and Implementation Directorate (PID) Tikabahadur Choudhury were present at the program.
