Kathmandu, February 13: The 16th meeting of the Nepal-India Power Exchange Committee (PEC) meeting held in New Delhi, India, has fixed the per unit rate for import of Nepal’s electricity at Indian Rs. 8.1 (Nepali rupees.12.96). The PEC meeting on Wednesday fixed the per unit rate of electricity imported and exported according to the structure of the transmission line.

The meeting was co-chaired by Kulman Ghising, Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, and Ashok Kumar Rajput, Member, of Power System, Central Electricity Authority of India. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has said that the price of electricity exchange through 132 KV transmission lines in 2025 has been fixed at Indian Rs 8.1 per unit (12 rupees 96 paise). The price of electricity exchange through a 132 KV transmission line for the year 2024 was Rs. 7.98 per unit (Nepalese rupees 12.77).

The meeting also fixed the price of power exchange through a 33 kV transmission line at Indian Rs 8.78 per unit (Nepali Rs14.04). In 2024, the price of electricity exchange through 33 KV transmission line was Indian Rs. 8.65 per unit (Rs.13.84). Nepal has fixed the rate of Rs. 9.41 (Rs. 15.05) per unit of electricity imported and exported through 11 KV transmission line. Chandan Kumar Ghosh, spokesman of the Authority, said that the new tariff will be applied to Nepal's electricity whenever it wants and it will also apply to export to India.

"We have to buy electricity through this structure only when we need it, we have kept the way open to bring it from 132 kV," he said. “33 and 11 kV transmission lines should be purchased only in case of emergency. This price will be in effect until December. The next PEC meeting for 2026 will again have to set the per-unit rate of electricity.
