Kathmandu, February 13: Nepal and India have held discussions on the issue of advancing the Kathmandu-Pancheshwor project. The issue of advancing the Pancheswor project was discussed during a meeting between Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka and Indian Water Power Minister CR Patil.

Minister Khadka, who arrived in New Delhi, India to participate in the 'India Energy Week-2025', discussed with his counterpart Patil on Thursday on the finalization of the DPR of the Pancheshwor Multipurpose Project.

Senior energy expert at the Ministry of Energy, Prabal Adhikari, informed that there was an agreement to proceed with the DPR of the project at the earliest. During the meeting, it was agreed that the construction of the link canal from Tanakpur to the Nepal-India border has been completed, but it was agreed to finalize the water operation procedure soon and release water as per the Mahakali Treaty.

Similarly, it has been agreed to hold the 14th meeting of the Joint Committee on Flood and Drowning Management from March 22 to 24 and to receive a formal communication from the Ministry in this regard. It was also agreed to take forward the discussions regarding the DPR of the Saptakosi Multipurpose Project through bilateral meetings. During the meeting, the Indian Minister for Jal Shakti, Patil, said that the Government of India is positive to finalize the DPR of the Pancheshwar project as soon as possible and move the event forward as soon as possible.
