
Kathmandu, February 9: Three motorable bridges have come into operation in the Beni-Jomsom-Korla highway of the Kaligandaki corridor of the project of national pride connecting China and India.
Beni-Jomsom-Korla Highway Planning Office, Mustang, has constructed a motorable bridge at a cost of Rs 31.78 crore at Gharpajhong Rural Municipality-2, Baragung Mukti Kshetra Rural Municipality-6, Narsingkhola of Chusang and Loghekar Damodarkund Rural Municipality.
Dhruba Kumar Jha, the head of the project, informed that vehicles have started operating after the construction of the structure and approach roads of all three bridges. According to him, Himdung and Thokar Immortal Construction had signed a contract for the construction of a 120-metre long motorable bridge at Marphakhola and 90-metre long motorable bridge at Narsingkhola in Chhusang at a cost of Rs 216 million six years ago.
The contract for the construction of the 80-meter-long motorable bridge in Charangkhola was taken by the Wooden Mandap Construction Service at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Logekar-Damodarkund Rural Municipality Chairman Lomsang Chomphel Bisht (Raju) said that after the commissioning of the concrete bridge, the problem of crossing the vehicles by taking risks from the temporary bridge and ditch with wooden beams has ended.
Of the 24 motorable bridges to be constructed under the 200 km Beni-Jomsom Korla road connecting the Chinese border at Korla Pass in Mustang from the mountain's plateau to Myagdi, 19 have been contracted, 12 have been completed, two are under construction, five contracts have been dismantled and five bridges are in the process of construction. So far, 84 percent of physical progress has been made in the road project since FY 2073/074 BS.
