Kathmandu, February 7: The government was prepared to table the six ordinances for ratification from both houses of Parliament. However, when the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal chair demanded key ministries, including the DPM post, at the last hour at the cost of voting in favor of the ordinances, the government didn’t table the ordinances in Thursday’s meetings.
Yadav demanded a home or health ministry in the coalition government. Yadav met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. According to sources, Yadav was ready to cooperate after the government asked him to help pass the ordinances but claimed that he should get the Home or Health Ministry along with the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to sources, Yadav, who met Deuba on Wednesday evening and Prime Minister Oli on Thursday morning, sought one of the two ministries. “He has demanded that the ordinance should be passed but he should be given the Home or Health Ministry along with the Deputy Prime Minister,” the source said.
On the moral ground, when the government failed to endorse ordinances at Thursday’s meeting, it faced a setback. Nevertheless, the leaders in the coalition parties are trying to agree on Yadav for endorsing the ordinances.
The ruling alliance have hoped that by Sunday, they will agree Yadav to vote for the ordinances.
The NC-UML coalition government has a comfortable majority in the House of Representatives but it lacks three votes to claim a majority in the National Assembly. Therefore, three votes of Yadav’s party in the National Assembly are very important for the government.
