Kathmandu, February 4: Opposition parties have filed rejection proposals against six ordinances issued by the government. The opposition parties have registered 66 resolutions in the House of Representatives and the National Assembly demanding the rejection of all the six ordinances brought by the government.
MPs from the Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Unified Socialist and Nepal Majdoor Kishan Party have registered proposals against the ordinances.
The government has already tabled six ordinances in the House.
Now the ordinances will be presented at the House for endorsement from the House.
The ordinances will remain active for 60 days and the House has to endorse them with a majority.
If the House rejects the ordinances, they will expire.
So far, the coalition partners can easily bag a majority in the Lower House, however, in the National Assembly, the government doesn’t secure a majority. Therefore, it needs to get support from other parties.
Without approval from both the Houses, the Ordinances cannot be rectified.
In the 59-member National Assembly, the government needs 30 votes to claim a majority. However, NC has 16 MPs, whereas, UML has 11 MPs in the National Assembly. The government, thus, needs three votes from other small parties to rectify the ordinances.
