
Kathmandu, February 4: The government has asked various international social networking companies to register in Nepal. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, through a notice on Monday, has asked such companies to register in Nepal and designate a contact person in accordance with the Social Media Using Management Guideline, 2080.
Section 3 of the directive states that social media companies should register with the Ministry of Communications. Similarly, Section 6 provides for designating a contact person in Nepal.
It is mentioned in the notification that the Ministry can ban social media companies that do not register according to the guidelines. In addition, it is mentioned in the notice issued by the ministry that social media companies should also embrace technology for promoting security and digital literacy as well as content filtering and moderation in order to promote Nepal's privacy.
The government included various provisions to regulate social network companies in the bill to regulate social networks, which was registered last week in the National Assembly. Meanwhile, the Ministry has issued such a notification.
