
Kathmandu, February 1: The “Warm Spring Festival, Talking About China’s Tibet” theme event along with a photo exhibition on modern Tibetan livelihood held in Kathmandu this afternoon.
Scholars, senior journalists, artists, and individuals from various walks of life attended the celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Tibet.
The event, hosted by China’s Tibet Bookstore in Thamel, Kathmandu, served as a vibrant platform for cultural exchange, featuring a diverse array of activities that highlighted the unique charm of Tibetan culture.
Cultural Exchange: Revisiting the Legendary Story of Araniko:
The event began with a warm welcome speech by Ms. Wang Mengyao, who emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding and friendship between nations. The highlight of the cultural exchange segment was the captivating story of Anige (Araniko), a renowned Nepalese architect of the Yuan Dynasty, presented by Nepalese writer Ganesh Kumar GC. Araniko’s legacy, particularly his supervision of the White Stupa in Beijing, symbolizes the deep cultural ties between Nepal and China.
Dr Haris Shah, Chairman of the Nepal-China Cultural and Educational Association, further enriched the discussion by elaborating on the historical significance of the Araniko statue and the Princess Bhrikuti statue, underscoring the enduring cultural connections between the two nations.
Music and Art: A Cross-Border Cultural Feast:
The event also showcased the power of music and art in transcending cultural boundaries. Nepalese singer Fu Sherpa’s heartfelt rendition of the Chinese classic Eternal Star resonated deeply with the audience, earning warm applause.
The art exhibition segment featured Deji, a Thangka painter from Lhasa, who introduced the audience to the intricate art of Thangka painting, a cornerstone of Tibetan culture. The vibrant colors and profound religious significance of Thanka paintings captivated attendees, who took their time to appreciate the exquisite artwork. Additionally, Kiran Gautam, the Nepalese publisher of Tibet Today Weekly, shared insights into the role of media in promoting cultural understanding.
Interactive Session: Knowledge Quiz and Open Discussion
The interactive segment of the event was a major highlight, with the audience engaging in lively discussions on Tibetan culture, artistic development, and China-Nepal cultural interactions. The knowledge quiz, focusing on Araniko and Princess Bhrikuti, added an element of excitement as participants vied for beautifully crafted souvenirs. This interactive exchange not only deepened the audience’s understanding of Tibetan culture but also fostered a sense of camaraderie among participants.
