Kathmandu, January 30: Today is the Sonam Lhosar, the New Year of the Tamang community in the country.
The Tamang community is observing this year as the year of the snake.
The government has declared Sonam Lhosar a public holiday. The Himalayan Buddhist community, including Tamang, celebrates the new year with great fanfare.
The community celebrates the festival from Magha Shukla Pratipada to Purnima by observing traditional rituals and taking blessings from seniors.
