
Kathmandu, January 21: Tea exports from Mechi Customs Office in Kakarvitta have increased by 55.70 percent in the six months of the current fiscal year 2081/82. According to the Customs Office, tea worth 2 billion 959 million 37 thousand rupees has been exported so far. Ganpati Kandel, information officer at the Mechi Customs Office, said that 11,232.27 metric tons of tea were exported during the same period.
During the same period last year, 2080/81, tea worth Rs 1.9 crore and Rs 5.6 lakh was exported. Aditya Parajuli, president of the Tea Producers Association, said that the export of Nepali tea is on the happy side with the decrease in tea production in India. Chairman Parajuli claims that if the government of Nepal facilitates the export of tea, it will increase further due to the increase in demand in India. According to the data of the office, the export of cardamom has increased by 16.7 percent till the last month of the current year 2081/82.
In the current six months, cardamom worth Rs 4,55,70,69,000 has been exported. During the same period last year 2080/81, cardamom worth Rs 3 billion 90 crore 58 lakh 06 thousand was exported.
According to the office, the export of plywood 27.90, cement clinker 4,141, and veneer sheets has increased by 236 percent.
