Kathmandu, January 18: The sixth coordinated security meeting between the security agencies of the DIG level from Nepal and India has been held in Palpa. Various issues related to border crime control, prevention of communal elements and cooperation were discussed in the meeting.

The meeting was held at Lumbini Cable Car Butwal Hill, Tinahu Ward-3, Palpa on Friday. The Nepali side was led by Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police No 5 Bahini, Pradeep Kumar Pal while the Indian side was led by Dig of Lakhimpur Khiri Sector Headquarters of the Indian Sashastra Seema Surakchya Bal (SSB) Vikraman and Dig Munna Singh of Gorakhpur Sector Headquarters.

In the meeting, it was agreed to control the violent communal activities seen in the border districts, maintain religious tolerance, prevent border crimes and make information exchange more effective. The meeting also decided to launch a joint security campaign to prevent illegal economic crimes, drug trafficking, human trafficking and illegal entry of citizens of third countries.

Similarly, both sides have pledged to cooperate in cleaning the No Man’s Land area, repairing border pillars, and removing illegal structures. It was also agreed in the meeting to continue joint patrolling, health desk operation, sports and various exercises.

Senior officers of the Armed Police Force Nepal and commanders of the Indian Armed Police Force were also present in the meeting. This regular meeting between Nepal and India is expected to play a more effective role in resolving the challenges related to the open border.  Earlier, a similar meeting was held in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, India.
