Kathmandu, January 10: The meeting of the Nepal-India Secretary-level Mechanism for Commerce (IGC) has started in Kathmandu today.

The meeting of the Nepal-India Commerce Secretary level, which has not been held for the past four years, has started today in Kathmandu.

Baburam Adhikari, spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, said that in the meeting, issues ranging from solving the problems faced by Nepal in exporting goods to India to revising the commercial treaty will be raised.

He mentioned that since India is an important partner of Nepal in terms of import, export and trade, such discussions with India will be very important. Spokesman Adhikari informed that the discussion will focus on solving the problems between Nepal and India in trade and transportation.

He said that the agenda of Nepal is to agree to recognize the quality certificate issued by the quality certification body of another country, and request that Nepali exporters get a BIS certificate to recognize the quality certificate issued by the Quality and Weights and Measures Department of Nepal. He said that the representatives of India took these issues positively and hoped that the meeting would be successful.

He said that the issue of delay in getting a BIS certificate by Nepalese exporters will also be taken up in the meeting and said that India is positive on that issue. He said that this meeting would be a breakthrough in making it easier for Nepali exporters to get a BIS certificate.
