Former vice chairman of the UML Bhim Rawal is now touring the country after his expulsion from the party.

On Wednesday last week, he organised a press conference and announced that he would launch a motherland awakening campaign. Immediately after his press meet, he reached Sunsari to inaugurate a sports event, but the UML leaders and cadres not only prevented him from inaugurating the pre-scheduled event but also compelled the organisers to postpone the sports event itself.

However, he toured a few cities including Dharan.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu earlier on Wednesday last week, Rawal said his vision was to evolve the campaign into a political party. “It is necessary to walk on the path of rule of law, systems, governance and good practices. Based on these principles, we must formulate comprehensive ideas, programmes and policies concerning the nation and its people, while running campaigns both domestically and internationally. The creation of a patriotic alternative political force has become inevitable, and our steps and efforts will move in that direction,” Rawal was quoted as saying by local media outlets.

According to Rawal, the campaign will be carried out across the country to raise public awareness against corruption and misgovernance. He also said the Nepali Congress (BP) and other like-manded parties and groups would join his campaign.

Duirng the press meet, Rawal spent most of his time by criticising UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli. He also criticized the UML and other political parties for increasing public frustration and weakening national sovereignty. “UML has lost its essence. Sadly, other parties seem to be heading in the same direction,” Rawal added.
