It seems all-powerful leaders of the political parties, their aides and the businessmen in Nepal have a single goal of capturing or occupying the as much as government land.
When the cases related to the land of Lalita Niwas and Bansbari Shoe Factory are yet to be resolved, another similar case of land grabbing has recently been revealed.
While many top politicians including Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bijay Gachchhadar and Bishnu Paudel were involved in selling the land of Baluwatar previously occupied by Lalita Niwas, billionaire Binod Chaudhary had captured 10 ropanis of the land of Bansbarui Shoe factory. Although, Chaudhary withdrew his case, possibly to return the land, cases of Lalita Niwas are still pending in courts.
Now the Maoist Centre is accused of capturing 164 ropanis of the land of Shera Durbar in Nuwakot.
The Shera Durbar built in Sherabensi, Nuwakot during the time of Prithvi Narayan Shah was found registered in the name of a private company. It has become public that Vikesh Shrestha's family dramatically took over the ownership of the company opened by members of the royal family to protect land over the demarcation. Maoist leader Shrestha was personal secretary when party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal was his secretary when he was Prime Minister in 2008.
Although Dahal initially refuted the accusation, when the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police confirmed the registration of government land in Shrestha's name, he had assured his support in the investigation.
Now with the revelation of Dahal's hand in capturing the land of Nuwakot, it seems most leaders in Nepal try their best to occupy the government land.
