Former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has finally returned to active politics. He participated in the central committee meeting of the Maoist Centre. He was unofficially given the position equal to party vice chairman in the Central committee meeting that began on Sunday and concluded on Tuesday.
The active appearance of former vice president Pun in the party's CC meeting clearly signalled his return to party politics. He had been stripped of party responsibilities while assuming the office of Vice President in 2015. After serving in the position for nine years, he retired in 2023. Now, he has joined his old party and it will not be a wonder if he becomes the successor of party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in future.
While the former vice president returned to active politics, former president Bidya Devi Bhandari is also keen to return to active politics devaluing the position of the President. A section of the UML leaders are urging Bhandari to return to active politics. She has even been exercising power in the party by taking a few UML leaders into confidence.
It is said that UML chairman KP Sharma Oli does not fear anyone in the party and takes decisions as per his wish. If Bhandari enters active politics, the UML leaders argue, Oli will not be able to make such a decision as he fears Bhandari. So, to control Oli, some UML leaders want Bhandari in the party. However, it is not that easy for Bhandari to rejoin UML as she has already served as the Second President of Nepal.
