
Kathmandu, January 4: China Film Day is being organized for the first time in Kathmandu to further strengthen the cultural relations between Nepal and China. The event is scheduled to take place on January 9 at the QFX Center in Thamel.
According to the organizers, the main objective of planning the event is to collaborate in the production, promotion and marketing of films between the two countries in the coming days. It will also facilitate cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Three popular Chinese films will be screened at the event jointly organized by the China Film Administration, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the China Film Archive, and the Nepal Film and Cultural Academy. The audience will also be able to participate in the interaction with the producers, directors and artists of the film after the screening. The program will feature the presence of renowned artists, directors, technicians, and distinguished personalities from the film industry. Prominent officials of the Chinese Embassy, Nepal Film Development Board and Nepal Tourism Board will also participate in the program.
Suyang, director of the International Department of the China Film Administration, will lead a team of 14 film producers, directors and actors. The program is expected to further strengthen the collaboration between the filmmakers of the two countries.
Talking about the significance of ‘China Film Day’, Chairman of Nepal Film and Cultural Academy KP Pathak said that it is not only an event to showcase films but also a bridge between two vibrant cultures.
“By introducing the creativity and depth of Chinese films, we will provide an opportunity for Nepali filmmakers to learn, collaborate and broaden their horizons.” Pathak further elaborated on the wide-ranging impact of such cultural exchanges, saying, “Such events play an important role in promoting mutual respect, bonding and understanding among nations.” It paves the way for co-productions, joint projects, and the creation of shared stories that reach a global audience. I believe that this is just the beginning of a new chapter in Nepal-China film relations. China Film Day is expected to play an important role in strengthening Nepal-China cultural diplomacy and film cooperation in 2025 and beyond.
