Kathmandu, January 2: Nepal’s first female ambassador and bold diplomat Bindeshwori Shah passed away at her residence in Kalimati this morning.

The late Shah, 92, was assigned Nepal’s ambassador to India in 2045 BS, just before the 1990 people’s movement in Nepal. Shah was the ambassador to India when India had imposed economic blockade on Nepal and relations between Nepal and India were passing through a very critical phase. Joint secretary Shah was promoted to the aditional secretary in the Foreign Minister when she was serving as the ambassador to India.

In 1971, after the formation of Bangladesh, Shah served as the first Charge d’affaires of Nepal to Bangladesh.
