These days when most UML and NC leaders address any mass meetings, they do not forget to say that the present coalition of the NC and UML will continue till 2027 general elections. Surprisingly, it is not known what has made the Nepali Congress and the UML leaders claim that their coalition will complete the remaining term of the House of Representatives. They must have a common fear that the coalition may collapse one day, and this fear has compelled them to make such a statement.
Most of the NC leaders close to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba are publicly saying that the government is unable to perform according to the people’s aspirations. The rival faction led by Shekhar Koirala is also not happy with the way the government is functioning while the UML has been mired by internal disputes which have not been exposed properly yet. A spark of the dispute was revealed when the party expelled Bhim Rawal and suspended two other leaders—Binda Pandey and Usha Kiran Timsina. Media reports have it that party chair Oli expelled Rawal and suspended the two women leaders despite opposition from some party leaders.
In the meantime, India has become unhappier with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli since Nepal signed the BRI during his recent visit to China. India which tried to prevent Oli's ascent to power has not invited him to visit India. Instead, India might be working secretly to pull down Oli from power.
America is also reportedly unhappy with Oli. Yet PM Oli is time and again repeating that the present collation is not going to break until the upcoming general elections. Other UML leaders and even the ministers from the NC are making similar claims—the present coalition will survive till 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, Maoist leader Barshaman Pun claimed that NC leaders have put the proposal to the Maoist Center for the formation of a new coalition government. Although Pun did not present reliable proof to prove his statement, these all events and claims show that the Oli-led government is not strong enough to complete its terms as agreed by the NC and UML leaders in June last year.
