Kathmandu, December 31: The second edition of the ‘Nepal-China Friendly Dragon Boat Race Festival’ organized in Pokhara concluded on Monday declaring winners of the boat race competition.

Dongguan Laoyu Club of China won the double titles in the final of the 200 and 500 meter races. The team received a double prize of $10,000. The competition was organized to promote Nepal’s tourism by improving cultural and people-to-people relations between Nepal and neighboring China. China’s Yunnan University stood second and Liaoning University declared third.

Yunnan Provincial University managed to secure the fourth position. Maliao Cheng University came second in the 500-meter race. The University came third in the competition.

The winner of the 500 and 200 meter races received a cash prize of US $5,000, along with a trophy, medal and certificate, while the runner-up received US $2,000 and the third received US $1,200.

The organizers said that the team participating in the competition was awarded a prize of $500. The award was presented to the winner by Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Surendra Raj Pandey, Chinese Ambassador Chen Song, and Pokhara Metropolitan City Chief Dhanraj Acharya, among others.

20 teams participated in the competition jointly organized by Gandaki Province, Pokhara Metropolitan City, Nepal Tourism Board and the Chinese Embassy.

Eight teams from China, one from Singapore and 11 from Nepal participated in the tournament. With the completion of the Nepal-China Friendly Dragon Boat Race-2024, the program has helped to strengthen cultural and people-to-people ties between Nepal and neighboring China and promote Nepal’s tourism, said Pokhara Metropolitan Chief Acharya.
