
Kathmandu, December 29: The Nepal-China friendly dragon boat race competition has started today in the tourist city of Pokhara.
The second edition of the Nepal-China Friendship Dragon Boat Race, organized with the aim of promoting Nepal’s tourism by improving cultural and people-to-people relations between Nepal and neighboring China, has started today in Phewatal, Pokhara.
Organized jointly by the Gandaki Province Government, Pokhara Metropolitan Corporation, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and the Nepal Tourism Board, 20 groups from Nepal, China and Singapore are participating in the competition.
A total of 129 players have arrived in Pokhara by charter flight from Chengdu in China to participate in the tournament which will run until Monday. Eight teams from China, one from Singapore and 11 from Nepal are participating in the tournament. 11 teams from Nepal including Gandaki, Bagmati, Karnali, Tribhuvan Army Club, Dragon Boat Gandaki, Begnas Team, Rupatal Team and Nepal Rafting Agencies Association (NARA) will participate in the competition.
The winners of the 500m and 200m races will receive $5,000, while the runners-up will receive $2,000 and the third-place finishers will receive $1,200.
