
Kathmandu, December 28: Tests have begun to import petroleum products from Motihari in India to Amlekhgunj in Bara through the pipeline. Chief of Nepal Oil Corporation Madhes Provincial Office, Amlekhgunj, Pralayankar Acharya, said that all the work of expansion of Motihari-Amlekhgunj petroleum pipeline has been completed and petrol and kerosene are being imported from the pipeline for testing.
“We have brought 5,500 kilolitres of petrol and 1,000 kilolitres of kerosene from the pipeline which has been expanded for the time being to test the pipeline,” Acharya said. “Along with this, necessary preparations are being made for regular import of petroleum products from the pipeline,” he added. He said, “Although it was said that regular import of petroleum products will be done through pipeline from January 2025, it will be delayed by a few days as necessary preparations have not been completed.
As part of the pipeline expansion project, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has constructed two petrol tanks of 4,100 kilolitres capacity, two trans-mix tanks of 250 kilolitres capacity, 24 fully automated loading ways-refillers, pump house and laboratory for transporting petrol at the depot at Amlekhgunj.
