Kathmandu, December 23: Speaker of the Federal Parliament, Devraj Ghimire, has said that it is necessary to ask for clarification from those MPs who remain absent in the meeting of the Bill Committee.

Due to the absence of the MPs, the meetings have been cancelled in the absence of a necessary quorum.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of a two-day workshop on “Conducting and Managing Meetings of the House of Representatives” organized by the House of Representatives Business Division on Sunday, he pointed out the need for all concerned parties to work towards solving the problem of not holding meetings of the Bill Committee for a long time.

“I have asked the office bearers and members of the committee to call MP strictly, if they do not come then ask for an explanation,” Speaker Ghimire said, “This issue of asking for an explanation is also not being implemented, he complained that even though the Parliament Secretariat was doing the necessary procedures for the Bill Committee, they were not effective.

Speaker Ghimire said that after calling the meeting of the bill committee three times, when the quorum was not reached, the third meeting should be held in the presence of one-third of the members. “Everyone should try to arrange a meeting according to the provision, and the problem will be solved,” he said. He argued that the role of all parties would be important in ensuring the effective functioning of the bill committee.
