Kathmandu, December 20: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has called upon Indian entrepreneurs to invest in energy, infrastructure development, agriculture, tourism, and information technology sectors in Nepal. At the India-Nepal Economic Conference held in New Delhi, organized by the Kathmandu University and India’s Foundation for Economic Growth and Welfare (EGROW Foundation), she said Nepal has liberalized its policy on foreign investment and private sector promotion and invited Indian entrepreneurs to invest in Nepal.

Minister Rana mentioned that an investment environment has been created in Nepal and a situation of high returns has also been created. She informed Nepal has achieved a double B-minus (BB-minus) rating for attracting foreign investment and has implemented investment-oriented policies.

Minister Rana stressed the need to further strengthen Nepal-India relations not only economically but also socially and culturally. She was of the view that Nepal-India relations should be developed as an exemplary framework for regional cooperation in South Asia.

She said that the relationship between Nepal and India is more than a paper contract, adding that the cultural, religious and historical ties between the two countries should be strengthened on priority.

On that occasion, she emphasized cross-border infrastructure development. “Projects like Integrated Check Post (ICP) Railway, Petroleum Pipeline, and Power Transmission Line are important pillars of Nepal-India economic cooperation,” she said.

At the conference, FM Deuba said that the power trade agreement signed between the two countries has put forward a plan to export 10,000 megawatts of electricity to India in the next 10 years and Nepal has recently been able to sell 40 megawatts of electricity to Bangladesh through India’s transmission line.

She said India is the largest trading partner for Nepal, a major contributor to foreign direct investment and a transit country for international trade and connectivity.
