Kathmandu, December 16: Nepali Congress’ dissident leader and the first mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, P.L. Singh passed away this morning at his residence in Chakshibari, Thamel, according to the family source.
Former minister and dynamic leader of the Nepali Congress, Singh was unhappy with the party after NC adopted a republic model.
After Girija Prasad Koirala joined hands with the Maoists by removing the fundamental principle of the party, constitutional monarchy and multiparty democracy, Singh quit the party and helped NC’s founding leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai.
MP Singh boycotted the restated House of Representatives following the 2006 April uprising saying the restated House was unconstitutional and illegal.
The late Singh had played as a bridge between the party and media during the 1990 people’s movement.
85-year-old Singh has been suffering from a stomach-related problem for a long time.
