Kathmandu, December 14: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has started installing a satellite-based RNP-AR system to operate flights during low visibility at the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa.

The system will help the aircraft while landing and take-off during low visibility.

The ICAO-certified standard equipment will be installed there, according to CAAN.

According to Gyanendra Bhool, CAAN spokesman, the new support system will be installed and flights will be operated through this system by January 23, 2025.

After installation of this system, small aircraft can land at a low visibility of 800 meters, and big aircraft can land at a visibility of 900 meters.

Presently, after India denied permitting the operation of the Instrumental Landing System, aircraft are facing problems during landing and take-off due to the low visibility especially during the winter season.
