Recently, the Assad regime, which had ruled Syria for more than half a century, was easily toppled by rebels mainly backed by the US, along with the participation of Israel and Turkey. The entire process, which took just 11 days, is stunning. This makes one feel that the US is indeed too domineering.
In fact, the Assads are shaped by old-fashioned Western values. Assad himself was a British-trained doctor in his early years, and Mrs Assad was a Briton with a long career in finance on Wall Street.
They used to rule the country using nothing but the so-called Western freedom, democracy, and market economy of the set of ideas and practices. Their overthrow is in the geopolitical interest of the US. Or did the CIA act fast before Donald Trump resumed office?
The US-backed rebels have gained ground, but it remains to be seen whether these forces will turn against the US. The Al Qaeda that caused the 9/11 attacks in the US had been cultivated by the US. Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who was hanged by the US for being an enemy of the US, had also been strongly supported by the US. So it remains to be seen whether the US is once again shooting itself in the foot by completely messing up Syria.
There is a high probability that Syria will fall into a long-term state of chaos because it is difficult to establish a stable legitimate government, there is a high probability of long-term war between various opposition forces, and outside forces are also likely to step in. Israeli ground forces have now entered Syrian territory.
The suffering of the Syrian people over the past decade will be even worse. This is largely due to its extremely important geographical location. Syria was broken up to create Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine in the past and now, Syria faces more partition. Syria's position at the crossroads of Eurasia, as well as the throat linking Eurasia and Africa, has made it a dangerous place for all sides to fight over. Not to be forgotten, is the Golan Heights of Syria which has billions of barrels of oil.
Nepal is also geographically important and very sensitive. The MCC opens the door for extraterritorial hegemonic power projection and throws Nepal into chaos as the Indo-Pacific strategy works. Americans are great in atrocity propaganda. Let's hope the country's leaders wake up to the danger.
