
Kathmandu, December 7: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, inspected and monitored the Nepal Airlines Corporation headquarters on Friday.
During the inspection, Minister Pandey directed the employees to work honestly so that every Department of the Corporation does not slacken late in the regular work to be done and if the Corporation suffers losses due to any reason, the same person will be responsible.
The Minister said that he is constantly taking information about the Corporation seriously and is ready to cooperate with the employees working in the interest of the Corporation. He also assured that no one will take away the ground handling work conducted by the Corporation.
Expressing confidence that the Corporation will be able to progress and develop the overall tourism sector only if everyone works together honestly with the feeling of what more they can contribute while taking service facilities from the Corporation, he promised that there will always be positive support in the work to be done from the Ministry.
Executive Chairman of the Corporation Ubraj Adhikari briefed about the achievements made so far and the future plans of the Corporation. He pointed out that the Corporation is working on a plan to purchase STOL aircraft operating in remote areas in collaboration with the seven provinces, work is being done on taking soft loans to manage the economy by reducing the expensive interest rate loans taken from the treasury and the Civil Investment Fund, and the Corporation itself is working on a plan to operate in-flight kitchens.
Similarly, he urged the government to take the initiative to waive the tax imposed on aviation fuel, and to provide a customs exemption facility on the parts used in the maintenance of the Corporation’s aircraft and airport equipment and food items used in the Corporation’s aircraft.
He also urged the government to facilitate the Corporation to provide special facilities to the national flag bearers in other countries, to increase the service facilities of the pilots and other employees, to make necessary amendments to the existing Public Procurement Act and Rules by making separate provisions for the special nature of the aviation business like the corporation.
