Kathmandu, December 6: Industry, Commerce and Supply Minister Damodar Bhandari, who is on an official visit to India, met with his Indian counterpart Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi on Wednesday evening.

During the meeting at Minister Joshi’s office in New Delhi, the two ministers discussed issues of bilateral interest, including Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification of Nepali companies and facilitating the import of renewable and essential food items such as wheat, rice and sugar.

To note, India has halted imports of Nepali cement, and shoes, among others in the name of BIS certification.

Minister Bhandari drew the attention of Minister Joshi to facilitate the import of essential goods from India to Nepal. Under Secretary of the Ministry of Industry Tarkaraj Bhatt, who participated in the visiting team, informed that there was a positive discussion on the issue of facilitation.
