The rival faction in NC led by Dr. Shekhar Koirala, organised a gathering of the leaders loyal to him in Birtanagr despite the efforts of the establishment to foil it.
NC is organising a gathering of municipal party leaders in Koshi.
But Koirala orgnaised the meeting of the municipal party representatives just two days before the official gathering hinting at a widening rift in the NC. Nearly 140 municipal presidents and a few district presidents attended the three-day gathering that began on Monday.
Addressing the meeting in Biratnagar on Tuesday, Dr. Koirala said that the government formed by the two major parties of the country had no room for failure.
Koirala said that the failure of the present government would lead to political instability in the country. He said that even after four months since its formation, the government had not been able to focus on the main agenda and provide clarity on the reasons for its inaction.
He said that constitution amendment, good governance and economic prosperity were the main priorities of the government. However, he said that the government had not once held discussions with smaller parties or the Congress regarding amendment to the constitution.
He said that the meeting was being conducted to initiate dialogue with the leaders at the grassroots level. He said in order to strengthen the party, municipal presidents should be granted authority in the party’s statute. He also urged all municipal party presidents present at the meeting to return to their villages and work on strengthening the party fearlessly.
Central member and former minister Dr. Minendra Rijal said that no one should fear Congress engaging in dialogues with leaders at the lower level.
Nepali Congress Biratnagar Metropolitan President Dipak Chapagai, Congress Central members Sarita Prasai, Kiran Yadav and Rajeev Koirala, District Presidents Dig Bahadur Limbu (from Morang), Binod Bantawa (from Bojpur) Rup Narayan Jawegu (from Panththar) and others were present at the meeting.
