Kathmandu, November 30: The Embassy of Nepal, Muscat organized a special camp for Social Security Enrolment, Consular Services and Labour awareness at the Embassy premises on Friday (November 29).
Ambassador to Oman, Dornath Aryal, highlighted about the Social Security Fund, initiatives taken the Government of Nepal and importance of SSF. He, further, thanked the team from the Social Security Fund, Embassy staff and representatives of Oman based Nepali organizations and volunteers for their encouraging participation. While speaking on the occasion, Bibek Panthee, Deputy Executive Director of the Social Security Fund highlighted the procedures and benefits of the scheme.
A three-member team from Social Security Fund, Kathmandu comprising Bibek Panthee, Deputy Executive Director, Ms. Radhika Niraula, Assistant Director and IT officer Rajesh Chapagain, reached Oman for the special event.
A separate desk was set up to provide Labour and Consular Services at the camp. Bishesh Kumar Sah, Second Secretary and Govinda Prasad Acharya, Labour Attache’ coordinated the event. Service seekers continued to attend the camp throughout the day. Around 215 Nepalis received the services in two days. Such events will be conducted again for those who could not avail the services.
The Embassy found that most of the participants were unaware of the Social Security System scheme and expressed happiness for the information and services provided in Oman itself. They also requested the Embassy to continue such services and to provide work permits from the Embassy itself.
Also in the past, the Embassy had conducted passport-consular services camps on weekend to facilitate the Nepali community members who find it difficult to come to the Embassy on a week day. But this camp was special due to social security related services. The special services camp was the first-ever camp on the social security enrolment and regularization services provided in a foreign land.
The Embassy has also planned to conduct a similar camp in Sohar, Oman on November 30. The same team from the Social Security Fund and the Embassy staff will travel to Sohar to organize the special services camp to facilitate the Nepali workers in that region. A Trainer’s Training programme has also been scheduled on December 2 to train volunteers about Social Security services so that they could further educate Nepali workers in Oman.
