Kathmandu, November 29: The World Bank is going to invest in the construction of a building in Suryaedaya Municipality of Ilam. To empower the residents with local materials, the World Bank has also chosen Suryadaya Municipality among the eight municipalities across the country.
America, Canada, the UK and other countries will also help in this WB project.
Mayor of Suryadaya Municipality, Ran Bahadur Rai, said that the World Bank will conduct a feasibility study and implement the project. “However, even now, Suryadaya Municipality is conducting the project only by studying disaster risk reduction,” he said, “The World Bank will also support our efforts.”
Currently, Suryadaya Municipality is implementing the plan based on the 10 aspects specified by the United Nations for disaster risk reduction. Last year, a World Bank representative from the field of disaster risk reduction came to inspect the plans, projects and activities of the city, said Mayor Rai.
The Suryadaya  Municipality got the project this year after the WB representative was excited about the Suryadaya Municipality’s work.
According to the Mayor, if eight municipalities of the country are selected for the project, the World Bank representative has also requested the Suryadaya Municipality to play a leading role. Mayor Rai said that the United Nations has praised Suryadaya Municipality for making everyone aware of disaster risk reduction even in the school curriculum.
