Kathmandu, November 25: Former foreign minister Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani has suggested to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli not to make a narrative that the projects under Chinese support should not be implemented under loans.
PM Oli held a meeting inviting former prime ministers and foreign ministers today (Monday) to seek suggestions on the matter of his visit to to China.
During the meeting, Lohani made this remark.
“Whether or not to take a loan from BRI is a matter of the government’s decision, but it should not be a principle that you should not take a loan from China under BRI,” Dr. Lohani said, “It will be a big mistake if you make a theory that you should not take loans in BRI from China.”
While the major partner in the coalition government, the Nepali Congress, is taking a stand that Nepal should not take a loan under the BRI project, Dr. Lohani gave this suggestion to the Prime Minister.
Considering this suggestion of the Congress, PM Oli said that he will not take a loan under the BRI project. Dr. Lohani has suggested to PM Oli during his upcoming visit to reach an agreement with China regarding the construction of power transmission lines.
“Why did I give such a suggestion, because foreigners stopped believing us when we did things that we couldn’t do,” he added, “Therefore, while talking with the foreigners, we should tell them what we can do and what we cannot directly”.
