Kathmandu, November 23: The spokesperson of the ruling Nepali Congress, Prakash Sharan Mahat, said his party’s stand is not to take loan assistance under China’s BRI (Belt and Road Initiative) project.
Mahat said the Party was of the view that it would be better if Nepal receives grant assistance under the project during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to China.
Responding to queries raised by media persons at the federal parliament premises on Friday, Spokesperson Mahat reminded that an agreement was signed with China when he was the Minister for Foreign Affairs on the project. He also argued that the country should not take more loans from any country as the country is burdened with a lot of debts.
The Chinese government has also proposed to sign the implementation plan of the BRI project during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to China. However, the main focus of the ruling Nepali Congress has insisted that the grant should be provided under the project as per the agreements reached by China in the past.
