Kathmandu, September 27: Minister of Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said the present government is positive about China's Belt and Road proposal. Gurung referred to the Belt and Road proposed by China, noting that Nepal has been participating in various projects implemented by neighboring countries and the international community to suit national interests. Addressing the third Nepal-China media conference organized by South Asia Network Television and Nepal-China Media Forum on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in Kathmandu on Thursday, September 27, the Minister expressed confidence that more areas of China's assistance to Nepal would open up in the coming days. He said that the media of both countries will play an important role in elevating the relations between the governments and people of the two countries. Addressing the same occasion, Chinese Ambassador Chen Song, said that after the BRI cooperation, the results of continuous collaboration between Nepal and China have been achieved. He noted that the Trans-Himalayan Three-Dimensional Interconnection Network has taken shape. Ambassador Song informed that many neighboring countries, including Nepal, will benefit from more than 300 reform measures implemented by the third plenary meeting of the recently held 20th General Assembly of the Communist Party of China. The Ambassador said that the gradual expansion of China's goods, services, capital and labor markets and the continuation of unilateral openness to the least developed countries are examples of bilateral cooperation. "Continuing the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative technology action plan, building a platform for multilateral cooperation in the areas of green development, digital economy, artificial intelligence, energy, taxation, finance, and disaster reduction, improving integrated planning of water, land, and air, and coordinating important symbolic projects and small but beautiful life projects are examples of this," the Chinese envoy said. He expressed the belief that these reform measures will accelerate the construction of a multi-dimensional network across the Himalayas between Nepal and China. He noted that the potential of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, industry, trade, digital technology, renewable energy and tourism will increase and benefit the people of both countries more as it will contribute to the development and prosperity of Nepal. Ambassador Song appreciated the positive role played by the media of both countries in the recent past. The envoy remarked that the media has played an important role as a social responsibility in disseminating true, accurate, comprehensive and reliable news information and contributed to continuously strengthening the strong foundation of cooperation and interaction between Nepal and China. Kishor Shrestha, chairman of the Nepal-China Media Forum, said that the program organized on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 69th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China has further deepened Nepal-China relations. Shrestha further remarked that such a conference would help in enhancing communication cooperation, partnership, coordination, and friendly and cordial communication relations between the two countries. "Along with the use of high technology in the field of communication, the media should play a strong role in raising the voice of the voiceless," he said. "We have a common objective and belief that the content presented in the media should be real, true and simple", Shrestha said. Referring to the special role of Hou Zhihong, a senior journalist from China's Kansu province, in organizing the conference, he said that Hou has been involved in it for the last three years and praised South Asia Network Television owned by Hou. The conference was attended by more than 30 Chinese institutions, enterprises and companies based in Nepal, including Chinese news agency Xinhua, CCTV and Tibet Media Group.
