Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has, of late, started criticising the new parties, Kathmandu's Mayor Balendra Shah and the CPN-Maoist Centre.
Although Oli and Balen have been exchanging words for months, especially after Raghubir Mahaseth, the former Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, prevented Balen from expanding the pavement in New Road. Mahaseth, who led the UML in the erstwhile government of Pushpa Kamal Dahal, is close to Oli, and Balen started targeting Oli after Mahaseth thwarted his plan to beautify the country. The enmity between Oli and Balen escalated again when Balen accused Rekha Sharma, Lumbini Provincial Assembly Member representing the UML, of abusing a girl child. Balen even threw a satire at Oli on the occasion of International Children's Day.
Oli has been terming Balen as a whimsical boy and a 'fly' on the body of a buffalo.
The rivalry between Oli and Balen was further exposed during the Indra Jatra Festival on Tuesday. Fearing hooting against Oli, the government arrested some supporters of Balen who participated in the festival wearing T-shirts with an image of Balen. Later, Balen did not attend the function.
Likewise, PM Oli recently said that the new parties emerged only to 'eat' (enjoy positions and make money). He has obviously targeted the Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Janamat Party as they bargained for key posts in the past governments.
Above all, he predicted that the Maoist Centre would hardly get the status of the national party in the 2027 elections. UML and the Maoist Centre are exchanging words after the fall of the government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal of the Maoist Centre.
