Tuesday, September 6 witnessed the opening of the special session of the House of Representatives following a week of country-wide demonstrations, protests and bandhs by half a dozen UML-affiliated organization against the Supreme Court (SC) decision of August 28 reinstating the House and its description of the House’s dissolution as unconstitutional.

Indeed, precisely because of the protestors’ well-advertised plans to prevent entry that day into the Shigha Durbar, within whose compound the House of Representatives is sited, most lawmakers had to be ferried en masse in tourist luxury buses inside Singha Durbar premises, some as early as five hours before the opening of the House at 5 PM.
