Kathmandu, September 13: The vegetables produced in Nepal have started to be exported to Qatar from Thursday, September 12. Mayor of Dakshinkali Municipality, Mohan Basnet, said that around 2,000 kg of vegetables produced in Dakshinkali municipality of Kathmandu were sent to Qatar in the first phase under Nepal’s agriculture program with the support of China Foundation for Rural Development Nepal Office.
“We handed over the vegetables to Qatari Ambassador to Nepal Mishal bin Mohammed Ali Al Ansari at a program held at the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office,” said the Mayor.
Director General of the Department of Agriculture, Dr Narahari Prasad Ghimire, said that it was a matter of great happiness that Nepal has exported vegetables to Qatar.
Vegetables were cultivated in Dakshinkali as part of the China Foundation’s Agricultural Promotion Program for Rural Development. It is believed that along with the export of vegetables produced by the farmers there, it will also contribute to the economic development of the country and encourage the farmers.
The China Foundation provided special training to the farmers as well as necessary agricultural materials for rural development for vegetable production.
It is said that an important initiative has been taken in the development of Nepal’s agriculture with the technical and financial support of China in the Nepali fresh vegetable export ceremony in Qatar.
Various crops cultivated by farmers supported by the Agriculture Promotion Program of the China Foundation for Rural Development have been included.
