Kathmandu, September 13: Maoist Centre chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal reached Baluatar to meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Accordingly, Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba reached Baluatar to discuss the appointment of the chief justice of the Supreme Court.

Oli, Dahal and Deuba held a meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar from around 10:30 am on Thursday.

Dahal, presently the leader of the main opposition party is a member of the Constitutional Council appointing heads and members of the constitutional bodies. As the ruling alliance lacks a majority in the Constitutional Council, without the support of the Maoist Center, the government alone cannot decide on the appointment to the constitutional bodies.

The present chief justice is retiring soon, the government is under pressure to assign a new chief justice. The judiciary council has already submitted the names of the eligible candidates.
